A modern bed is more than just a piece of furniture in the home, it is a household item in which we spend some of our most vulnerable and intimate times. Most beds in the 21st century consist of the bed frame and the mattress, with the mattress sitting on top of a solid base made of either a sprung base or wooden slats. Most modern beds also include the option of a headboard for resting against and medical beds can even include side rails and in some cases both types of beds also include footboards. Beds that have headboards also normally have bed skirts which double up as dust covers that both protect and hide the actual bed frame under the mattress.
Make sure that your designer bedding is rated for your size of bed, or alternatively that its dimensions are sufficient to meet your personal needs. Some people like lots of bedding hanging over the mattress so they can cuddle in and get comfortable. If you are using a flat sheet, then that should be of a size sufficient to tuck under the mattress all round - or be elastically fitted to it.
Many are unaware that since most furniture are made from synthetic materials, they have the greatest potential to actually harm both the body and the environment. Plastics, metals and some hardwood pieces often contain chemicals that help preserve and keep the integrity of the furniture. Not doing this would jeopardize the business, and so furniture manufacturers incorporate preservative materials to their products to increase their longevity in warehouses and stores. For example, some solid wood furniture is imbibed with pesticide and/or fungicides that kill insects or molds that may invade and destroy the furniture. Some have preservatives like Formaldehyde as for plastic or steel fixtures, especially those with color, their paints may contain lead. All these pose a significant health risk to the users. Some disintegrate and turn into vapour, but this ultimately causes harm too. Inhaling the fumes from chemicals in the furniture will cause disorders and disease. What’s more is that these chemicals do not break down easily. They stay with your solid wood furniture until the day you dispose of them. When you dispose of them, the environment then takes the damages. The chemicals harm and pollute the environment.
Then look at your current décor - is that to be retained or changed to suit the bed? People do not generally redecorate their bedroom when they need a new bed! Is natural wood best, or would prefer it to be colored - painted or upholstered. These questions can only be answered by you, and your answers will determine the style and finish of your new bed headboard.
Today, they are mainly decorative, and chosen to either set the decorative theme of the bedroom or to follow it. There is a massive selection of different styes available in every color of the rainbow. However, it is the solid wood versions that most people choose, both for their looks and their style.
We are not discussing those all singing all dancing bed panels with all the bells and whistles such as an integrated radio, alarm clock, bookshelf and lights. We are discussing plain boards with no bells and no whistles. Your headboard can set the decorative style of a bedroom, and can also express your own style of creativity.
